“Every good and perfect gift is from above.” It must have pleased God to give Audrey life and to give her to us. Though I had many health issues after giving birth to her, she always remained my undeserved gift from God; for she was the budding flower, in the midst of my stormy days of weak health and depression. And each day of her life she became fonder in my eyes, like the fairest of all flowers in a garden. In infancy, she was that delicate bloom, sweet and quiet. But as she grew, we began to see a sprouting of thorns. Sin, though it was always there, began its visible hold on her. Her natural sense to rebel began with throwing food on the ground, saying “NO” back, or simply ignoring us. Now at 22 months with an exuberant vocabulary, we can audibly hear her rebellion through her speech and tantrums. Her sins are now even louder. And so I fear, she is blooming in a world in which she will no doubt be soiled with innumerous temptations and fleeting desires which can only entangle her. Our grave prayer is that Christ would call her at a young age and cover her with mercy and grace to endure this world until she enters another world, where she can continue to bloom in all perfections.
I have engaged in many discipleship relationships, but never one of such challenge and urgency. Undoubtedly, it’s my human nature as her mom that favors her, and her sins strike me more deeply than my own. I hope to toil in my training of Audrey and raise her with a Biblical world view and will labor in prayer for her salvation. But I must trust that it is God who ultimately breathes life, love, hope, and faith in her.
My intention in this post is to make up for lost time (or should I say lost writing). I should have kept an earlier journal of our firstborn, Audrey Grace Bain.

taylor- this was beautifully written. I am so excited to watch as you raise up Audrey in the way she should go and watch as she blooms into a godly young woman in the midst a crooked and perverse generation. I have been blessed watching your mother Audrey already and look forward to learning more from you.
